Course description and learning objectives

Student completing this course will be able to:
• Associate Chemistry and its measurement.
• Distinguish atoms, molecules and ions.
• Define chemical formulas and equations.
• Distinguish acids and bases.
• Explain various chemical reactions.
• Descibe basic analytical instruments, such as spectrophotometry and chromatography

Topics include

1. Chemistry and measurement
2. Atoms, molecules, ions
3. Calculations with chemical formulas and equations
4. Acids and Bases
5. Chemical equilibrium and reactions (exchange reactions: precipitation and net ionic equation, oxidation-reduction reactions, redox reactions, aqueous solution titrations)
6. Instruments: introduces basic analytical instrument such as spectrophotometry and chromatography, etc.
